Uveitis

Anterior uveitis is an inflammatory condition that involves structures on the inside of the eye.  White blood cells and inflammatory cellular debris can be seen floating inside of the eye between the cornea and the lens.  Symptoms often are redness of the eye, tearing, photophobia, and eye pain or dull aches around the eye. 

Uveitis can be caused by blunt trauma to the eye or severe infection within the eye.  It may also be linked to many systemic diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, Bechet’s syndrome, Reiter’s syndrome, sarcoid syphilis, tuberculosis, or Lyme disease.
